Update in response to COVID-19

In view of current federal, state and local government policies and recommendations, and out of an abundance of caution, the Northwest Rock Academy has decided to temporarily move all private lessons online.

We’re expanding our online lessons to all of our students for two reasons;

  • to add a measure of continuity to their lives in times when all of us have likely experienced disruption in our daily routines
  • and to do this in a manner that helps protect the most vulnerable in our community.

Now, in the midst of difficult times, is a great opportunity to enrich our lives, study music, and experience the joy of discovering and strengthening our talents.  We’re taking these measures now in the hopes that they will contribute to minimizing the threat that COVID-19 poses, and that we all return to the full vigor of our communal activities as soon as possible.

The NW Rock Academy has a new location!

Our lessons and rehearsals are now located near downtown Vancouver.  Our rehearsals and lessons take place in our comfortable, secure, and well-equipped studio, which allows for a more immersive experience in music education.

For over a decade, the studio has served as the home for the HiCap Records record label, and it’s now open available to our students.  It’s a sound-treated space that features a baby grand piano and several other acoustic and electronic instruments.  It also functions as a recording studio with a 40-channel digital mixer, outboard processing, and a variety of microphones.

There’s comfortable seating, free WIFI, and a library of books and magazines for waiting parents and students.  As we head into spring and better weather, parents and students will be able to enjoy our garden area while they wait for their lessons.  There are also several businesses within a few blocks for shopping, food, and coffee including Safeway, Dairy Queen, and Latte Da Coffee House and Wine Bar.  For parents of young children, Shumway park with its playground and grassy areas is a few blocks south on F Street.

We believe our new location will allow us to focus serving the community of Downtown Vancouver in addition to greater Clark County.  We also believe our integration with the community will lead to more opportunities for our students to grow and perform.

Congratulations to Summer 1 2019

The students of Summer 1 2019 just wrapped up their session with a weekend of serious performing. Starting with the Harvest Days parade on Saturday, the performed for 45 minutes along the route with hardly a break in the music. Later that day they performed a hot set in front of the crowd at the Harvest Day’s community stage. Finally, on Sunday they performed killer set at Billy Blues Bar and Grill and rocked the house. So, to the students from the academy, congratulations on a successful session!

Congratulations Summer 2 2018

The 9 students of Summer 2 2018 (4 rhythm, 4 horns, 1 vocal) had only three weeks to prepare 8 songs for all three shows.  In fact they only had two weeks to prepare for their first two shows.  Calling themselves “10 Degrees Below and the Windchill Horns”  they took to the Columbian Stage at the 150th Clark County Fair after noon on a Tuesday, rocked the crowd, and then performed that same set again later that evening at Kiwanis Park in Battle Ground for National Night Out.  Within a week, they had learned two new songs and performed them on stage at Billy Blues Bar and Grill in Hazel Dell.  That evening they were treated to a special performance by veteran rocker Tommy Heath of  Tommy Tutone, who had been in the audience during their set.  Congratulation, students of Summer 2 2018.

Congratulations Summer 1 2018

The students of Summer 1 2018 spent four weeks through June and July learning a set of 8 tunes, some of which were quite challenging (pro musicians were impressed that they tackled these tunes).  They played two shows at Billy Blues Bar and Grill, and rocked the Battle Ground Harvest Days parade aboard Music World’s float, all in the space of one week.  Congratulations, students of Summer 1 2018.

Congratulations Spring 2018

We’ve had a busy season at the Rock Academy, and that began with our Spring 2018 class.  The students worked hard and put together a seven song set of some great music with two performances at Billy Blues Bar and Grill.  Congratulations, students of Spring 2018
