The students of Fall 2019 wrapped up their session in December with a nine song set at the Invitational Youth Jam at Billy Blues Bar and Grill. They worked hard, had fun and rocked the house. Congratulations! Way to go!
The students of Summer 1 2019 just wrapped up their session with a weekend of serious performing. Starting with the Harvest Days parade on Saturday, the performed for 45 minutes along the route with hardly a break in the music. Later that day they performed a hot set in front of the crowd at the Harvest Day’s community stage. Finally, on Sunday they performed killer set at Billy Blues Bar and Grill and rocked the house. So, to the students from the academy, congratulations on a successful session!
The students of the Fall 2016 took the stage at Billy Blues Bar and Grill in Hazel Dell, and burned through a six song set. They spent eight weeks learning new songs and, for some, new instruments. Two of the songs were even in mixed meter (unusual counts of 6, 7, and 8, instead of the usual 4). Congratulations on a job well done!
It’ been an incredibly busy summer at the Rock Academy. The students of Summer 1 put on three performances. They started off rocking the crowd at Billy Blues, and then went on to lay it down in Battle Ground, first from a float in the Harvest Days Parade, and then from the stage at the Harvest Days Festival.
Several of the students from Summer 1 continued on to Summer 2. Their first performance came two weeks into rehearsal in front of a reporter and photographer from The Columbian at the Billy Blues Invitational Youth Jam. The second was an hour long set in front of the Battle Ground community outdoors at National Night out. They wrapped it up with two performances in the last weekend; one from The Columbian Community stage at the Clark County Fair, the other at a classic car rally and fund raiser for the Columbia Academy. They performed over 18 songs during the course of four weeks, including some of the most challenging material the Academy has attempted to date.
Congratulations to both groups for outstanding effort and performance.
Our first ever Alumni Jam was held at Billy Blues in Hazel Dell on January 31. The students rehearsed and performed a five song set in one weekend. The students worked really hard to learn the songs, and had the crowd whooping, hollering, and calling for more. Our next jam is scheduled for February 28.
The students of Fall 2015 rocked the house at Billy Blues Bar and Grill Sunday November, 22nd with one of the hardest rocking sets the Academy has ever performed. Great job!
Congratulations to the students of Summer 2 2015 for two excellent performances. First, they put on a great show at the Clark County Fair under the name “Band 3”. Then they entertained the house at Billy Blues Bar and Grill in Hazel Dell, performing under the name “Spinal Cracker”, followed by surprise guest Tommy Tutone who performed his 1981 hit song “867-5309/Jenny”. All along the way, the students exemplified the best in teamwork and dedication to their art.
The students of the Summer 2 session will take to the Columbian Stage at the Clark County Fair this Thursday, August 13, at 6:00 PM. They’ve worked hard on a selection of punk, classic rock, country rock, and alternative songs. The Columbian Stage is located right across from the food court. Come check out this great group of young performers.
Congratulations to the Summer 1 2015 Student band, “Downgrade 2.0” for rocking the crowd from the float, and powering through a great set on stage. The students displayed great professionalism, and made one of the hottest days of the year hotter yet.
Congratulations to the Spring 2015 Rock Academy student band, “The Gears” on their performance at Billy Blues Bar and Grill. Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, they rocked the house. Well done!
