The 9 students of Summer 2 2018 (4 rhythm, 4 horns, 1 vocal) had only three weeks to prepare 8 songs for all three shows. In fact they only had two weeks to prepare for their first two shows. Calling themselves “10 Degrees Below and the Windchill Horns” they took to the Columbian Stage at the 150th Clark County Fair after noon on a Tuesday, rocked the crowd, and then performed that same set again later that evening at Kiwanis Park in Battle Ground for National Night Out. Within a week, they had learned two new songs and performed them on stage at Billy Blues Bar and Grill in Hazel Dell. That evening they were treated to a special performance by veteran rocker Tommy Heath of Tommy Tutone, who had been in the audience during their set. Congratulation, students of Summer 2 2018.
The students of Summer 1 2018 spent four weeks through June and July learning a set of 8 tunes, some of which were quite challenging (pro musicians were impressed that they tackled these tunes). They played two shows at Billy Blues Bar and Grill, and rocked the Battle Ground Harvest Days parade aboard Music World’s float, all in the space of one week. Congratulations, students of Summer 1 2018.
We’ve had a busy season at the Rock Academy, and that began with our Spring 2018 class. The students worked hard and put together a seven song set of some great music with two performances at Billy Blues Bar and Grill. Congratulations, students of Spring 2018
The Northwest Rock Academy is excited to announce it’s new “Intro To Rock” program for spring 2018. All great musicians have to start somewhere, and our new program is designed to give beginning rock musicians their entry into live rock music. They’ll have the opportunity to join a group of other beginning musicians, learn a setlist, and play rock live from a stage, helping to prepare them to pursue more advanced material in our other programs. The program is open to beginning vocalists, guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, and drummers. To find out more information and register, click here.
We’ve just uploaded the first music video to a song written by a student of the Academy. “Angels” is a piano rock ballad, and was written by Zoe King. She sings and plays piano, while Kristian Pedersen adds guitar and Grayson Goodwin lays down the drums. Check it out.
Enrollment is now open for the Northwest Rock Academy’s 2017 Fall Session. Singers, guitarists, keyboardists, bassists and drummers can register to learn to play and perform great rock music. The session will include performances at Billy Blues Bar and Grill. To find out more information and download forms, click here.
The Rock Academy just released its second music video. The students of Spring 2017 have made a new music video to Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”. The video shows what happens when a bratty little brother tries to disrupt his sister’s rock band rehearsal (hint: it involves devices that shoot soft projectiles). The students had a lot of fun making it. Be sure to tell us if you like it (or not). Feel free to leave a comment on YouTube, and subscribe to our channel if you want to see what we put up next.
This is our second music video. To see our first video, click here.
If your grade school child loves Nerf guns (and who doesn’t), and they’d love to be in a rock video, do we have an opportunity for you! The Northwest Rock Academy is shooting a music video next weekend, and we need extras with nerf guns. The extras get to fire nerf darts at the band while they perform their song. The video shoot will be at be at Music World in Battle Ground (502 E. Main Street, Battle Ground, WA 98604) next Saturday, May 27th, from 1:30-4:00 pm. All extras will need to have a release form signed by their legal guardian before they can participate. Extras will need to bring their own nerf guns. Please wear solid colors; no plaids or logos/images. Please contact us before Saturday May 27th to let us know you’re coming.
